Safety Instructions

Important guidelines for your safety on the Traun River

Rental Equipment

SUP (Stand-Up Paddle), Kayak, Canoe, Packraft, Pump-Foil, Inflatable Boat

Before first use, a personal briefing is conducted by our team. Participation is mandatory.

General Behavior Rules

  • Personal Responsibility: Use at your own risk. Please check boards, paddles, valves, life jackets, and safety equipment for damage and function before departure. Report damage immediately – improper return may result in repair costs.
  • Group Behavior: Groups should paddle within visual contact and take regular breaks together. Children under 12 must not go on the water unsupervised – not even with a life jacket!
  • Swimming Skills: Swimming skills are a prerequisite for all activities.
  • Alcohol & Drugs: Consumption of alcohol or drugs before or during use is strictly prohibited.
  • Life Jacket: Wearing a life jacket is mandatory, especially for children and adolescents.
  • Obstacles: Weirs, jetties, or inlets must be avoided – get off beforehand and portage. Watch out for fishing areas or breeding zones (e.g., signs, buoys, ropes) – do not enter.
  • Emergency Equipment: We recommend a waterproof bag with a mobile phone to call for help in case of emergency.
  • Instructions: Instructions from the TraunXperience team must be followed at all times.
  • Nature Conservation: Nature and animal protection have top priority – please avoid noise, litter, or damage to riverbanks.

Water and Weather Conditions

  • Check in Advance: Inform yourself about the current water situation and weather forecast.
  • In Case of Capsizing: Don't panic, the life jacket ensures buoyancy. Hold onto the boat or paddle. If possible, drift to shore. Don't swim after the boat if it drifts away. Report lost equipment immediately – even in case of self-rescue.
  • Extreme Weather: In case of strong wind, thunderstorm, or high water, use must be discontinued immediately.
  • Current & Obstacles: Current and obstacles (e.g., fallen trees, weirs) must be recognized in time and circumvented widely.

Equipment-Specific Instructions

SUP (Stand-Up Paddle)

  • Heat Protection: Don't leave SUP boards in direct sunlight! Heat can damage them. Best stored in shade or cooled from below at the riverbank.
  • Leash: Use leash (safety cord) only in current-free water – never in flowing waters except with safety belt and quick-release.
  • Shoreline: Always paddle near the shore.
  • Sun Protection: Wear appropriate sun protection and carry sufficient water.

Kayak & Canoe

  • Paddle: Don't use Scoprega paddles for support on the riverbed – risk of breakage.
  • In Case of Capsizing: Secure boat and paddle, don't jump after the boat.
  • Entry & Exit: Get in and out only at safe places (not on steep banks or weirs).

Packraft

  • Suitability: Suitable for flowing waters with light to medium current.
  • Air Pressure: Always check sufficient air pressure – no sharp-edged ground contact.

Pump-Foil

  • Experience: Only suitable for experienced riders with briefing.
  • Helmet Requirement: Helmet mandatory! Keep distance from other water sports enthusiasts and swimmers.
  • Conditions: Never use in strong wind or near swimming zones.

Inflatable Boat

  • Load Limit: Observe max. load limit (e.g., 4 people or 300 kg).
  • Children: Children only accompanied by adults.
  • Footwear: Sturdy footwear recommended – risk of slipping when getting in and out.

In Case of Emergency

  1. Stay calm
  2. Provide first aid
  3. Call rescue: Emergency number 112
  4. Provide location: Give location on the Traun as accurately as possible (e.g., bank area at power plant XYZ / river kilometer / Google Maps location)
